Materials & Care
Our materials
Everything we make starts with natural materials from Indonesia, worked by hand in Trangsan:
- Natural rattan — a fast-growing climbing palm, steam-bent into frames and split into weaving cane. Light, strong and repairable.
- Rattan & steel / stainless steel — hand weaving over powder-coated metal frames, for a more contemporary look and extra strength.
- Wood & teak — solid frames and table tops, often combined with woven panels.
- Water hyacinth — a thick, soft weave with a warm rustic texture.
- Seagrass — a fine, smooth weave with natural colour variation.
- Banana fibre & loom — durable woven fibres for modern, tight patterns.
Many designs can be produced in more than one of these materials — ask when you enquire.
Caring for natural-fibre furniture
A few simple habits keep handwoven furniture beautiful for decades:
- Dust regularly with a soft brush; use a dry paintbrush to reach into the weave.
- Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately — never soak the fibre.
- Keep out of prolonged direct sun, which dries and fades natural fibres.
- Avoid damp rooms for natural fibres; for wet areas choose synthetic weave on steel.
- Re-oil occasionally (rattan and teak) with furniture oil to feed the material.
