Our materials

Everything we make starts with natural materials from Indonesia, worked by hand in Trangsan:

• Natural rattan — a fast-growing climbing palm, steam-bent into frames and split into weaving cane. Light, strong and repairable.
• Rattan & steel / stainless steel — hand weaving over powder-coated metal frames, for a more contemporary look and extra strength.
• Wood & teak — solid frames and table tops, often combined with woven panels.
• Water hyacinth — a thick, soft weave with a warm rustic texture.
• Seagrass — a fine, smooth weave with natural colour variation.
• Banana fibre & loom — durable woven fibres for modern, tight patterns.

Many designs can be produced in more than one of these materials — ask when you enquire.

Caring for natural-fibre furniture

A few simple habits keep handwoven furniture beautiful for decades:

• Dust regularly with a soft brush; use a dry paintbrush to reach into the weave.
• Wipe with a barely damp cloth and dry immediately — never soak the fibre.
• Keep out of prolonged direct sun, which dries and fades natural fibres.
• Avoid damp rooms for natural fibres; for wet areas choose synthetic weave on steel.
• Re-oil occasionally (rattan and teak) with furniture oil to feed the material.
